Promoting the role-playing ideal and experience

The general principle of the Ari Scara guild is to promote the role-playing ideal and experience; this is meant as the game itself is based in a fantasy role-playing setting and we, being on a role-playing server, want to create and be a part of great role-playing events. We do that by making RP-events, getting in character and acting the way people would expect us to within the frame of our characters, in order to enhance the collective role-playing experience. We know it would complicate the gaming experience if you constantly were to talk in character but we do want to limit the OOC(out of character) chat to group/party -channels or areas where other players cant hear it.
That means all OOC talk is to be conducted in the /Ariooc -channel and dont be afraid of ashamed to ask any questions there, whether it be the results of last nights football match, what type of cologne popular rockstars use or how fastest to get to reveered with the Cenarion Circle.
However try to limit the ((blah-di-blah)) to an absolute minimum in the guild channel and at no point go OOC in a pulbic channel such as /say or /yell.

Having Fun

World of Warcraft, being a game, is meant as a source of entertainment and if too many take it too seriously it ruins the fun for everyone. This said the fun in the game is in conjunction with the collective experience that everyone in the game world in one way or the other is contributing, and though it may be possible for someone to have fun at the expense of others the overall collective experience deteriorates as a consequence of this. Therefore it is ill-advised and can lead to banning and/or reporting if a guild member decides to intentionally harass or spoil the fun of other players either inside or outside the guild or faction.
Even if this is in character we do in no way condone you calling other characters for "Soggy cunts that could use a hard fucking to losen up you tight pussy ass" as that dont belong, in our opinion, in a fantasy gameworld where many players are at an age where their parent doesnt approve them listening to that sort of verbal abuse.

No Twinking

We are of course always interested in the well being of our members but there are limits to how much time you can devote to all others than your self. If you need help or assistance in for of, weapons, armour or materials or if you need the pack safety of wolves going with you to a dangerous cave - feel free to ask for this at any given time but do it in character and in a polite manner or you will get disappointed. That means whispering a fenris while he is juggling several critical decisions in leading an army to safety, for a quick trip to Scarlet Monestary so you can get the nice shield everyone else has, will get you little but irritated responses.
However if you show up at the guild meetings and present your case in a respectfull and polite manner help and assistance will be provided promptly.

One for All

An attack on a guild member is an attack on the guild itself and we do everything in our power to protect our interest and that means you as a member. In return for this protection we demand that you are willing to aid your fellow guild members when they are in trouble or danger whether this be in quests or on raids. The Lupus and Fenris will do all in their power to protect the guild. This said, there be times where other matters presses on or where one members of the guild is in a more dire need of help than another. To avoid the feelings of favouritism and/or neglect the Fenris and Lupus guarantees to help or arrange help for you or any member of the guild at tuesdays between 19:00 and 20:00 if you or they at the guildmeeting and present the problem. Guildmeetings are held every Tuesday in the Ring of Valour in the Valley of Honour in Orgrimmar. We will ofcourse, if circumstance allow, be of as much help as possible at all other times, but do encourage members to seek help from nearby fellows of the horde rather than sit arms crossed and wait for the Fenris to arrive from across the great sea to help you collect twelve turnips.

For a more in depth description of what the ideals of the guilds are please read the article called
Of the Wolf Spirit in the miscellaneous section.

RP, PvE, PvP WHATS WITH ALL THE P-abbrevations?!

The letter P is in the 16th letter in the alhabet, it can be used to write many different and exciting words like 'Posh', 'Pupil', 'Pen', 'Puppy' and so on and so forth. Phonetically it has several important features like the sharp sound in the work 'Point', the silent sound in words like 'Attempt' in which it it is used to generate a slight pause before the letter 't' in the same word is pronounced. On rare occasions when joined with the letter 'H' it is used as an 'F' for instance in words like 'symphony', 'phalanx' and 'philosopher'.
In Massive Multiplayer Online Role-playing Games, like World of Warcraft, it is used to abbrevate the word 'Player' and that means you!
The Ari Scara is a Role-playing Guild meaning we focus on role-playing and role-playing events. That means staying in you role and acting the way your character would in the given situations and in that contributing to the overall feel of immersion. What binds people together in a role-playing guild is the sense of comradeship, brotherhood and sisterhood - being part of a group of people you love being around and who love having you around. On occasion a role-playing guild caters large events and plots and the Ari Scara has as well in the past and most likely will in the future. Some of these plots involve the players characters on a much more personal level than that of a PvE (Player versus Enviroment) or PvP (Player versus Player) -guilds in that the stories has the players as center and not the accomplishment, epic loot, rank, title or how many 'enemies' you have defeated.
These things are of course not mutually exclusive and nothing prevents you from desiring accomplishment, epic loot, rank or a high number of kills but be aware that these things are not the main focus of our guild - unity and comradeship is!
That said we have in our fenris staff, two prominent raid leaders of the raid forces Draconian Might and Cerebus respectively. These raid forces are not bound to the Ari Scara and the Ari Scara work independantly of the raid forces but if you have interest in such please seek out the fenris and they will help tell you how to apply.

Meeting Conduct

As we have evolved into a large pack it is cruicial to keep a sense of order and sensibility when at meetings if they are to be done within a reasonable time frame. To help ease this process please adhere to these simple guidelines:
  • Please arrive before the meeting is scheduled to begin so you have time to find your place
  • Please respect the place order in which we assemble: The Lupus with the Silvermane at his right, both flanked by the Fenris which in turn is flanked by the Wolverines, Wolfguards and Wolfcubs in their own desired order and all forming a circle.
look at the diagram for understanding:

The place of order is not dictated by military reasons for rank and hierarchy, else it would have been a pyramid instead of a circle. They are the showing of your understanding of the mutual respect that the guild is based upon. Those that has done a lot for the guild has done so because the respect and care for all its members. Those that hold junior guild rank position themselves within the circle in among those that are equal to them, not in a dictatorial or hiearchial way but in the sense of how much they have done for the guild (eg the closer to the Lupus the more work have you done for the your fellow wolves) to demonstrate their understanding and respect for the work that the senior members has done for them. But no matter what the Ari Scara is and will always remain a circle meaning that without the junior members the union would be broken. Not being able to comprehend these guidelines and positioning you as wolfcub among the fenris is a good way to demonstrate how little you care for the the work and effot put into the running of things. Understanding the guidelines but deliberately not adhering to them is equally a sign of ingratitude for the work your seniors(in sense of how much time they have put into making this thing for you) has done for you and is frowned upon, like not being able to sit still and listen while others talk...
In short placing your self accordingly in the circle at meetings is displaying how well you understand what the Ari Scara is all about, that being mutual respect not military dictatorship.
  • The Lupus administers the order of speech and all have to raise his hand in order to get the word.
  • The one who speaks stands in the center of the circle.
  • Interuptions only prolongs the meeting and essential information can be lost if they are pushed to end the of the meeting where fewer will be there.
  • If you have something important that need to be brought up, then tell the Lupus before the meeting.
  • Guest, meaning non guild members, are to be seated outside the circle

The Ari Scara Axioms

The Ari Scara is the spirit of the wolf and the essence of that is to use what means we have for knowledge and defence.
Epistemology is the study of what is meant by "knowledge". What does it mean to "know" something as opposed to merely having an opinion? This issue has been at the core of Western philosophy since before Socrates, since, until it has been answered, all other questions become unsolvable.
In epistemology, an axiom is a self-evident truth upon which other knowledge must rest, from which other knowledge is built up. Not all epistemologists agree that any axioms, understood in that sense, exist.

In Ari Scara we base our knowledge and rule of conduct on the Ari Scara Axioms, our self-evident truths on which other truths can be deducted meaning that this are our core guild rules and from them others ones are evident if you use your logic and reason. They are rules that are used to enforce common sense and decency and if you fail to respect those either in or out of character in the game you cannot be trusted to represent the Ari Scara guild and thus will be removed.
The officers of the Ari Scara are responsible for enforcing them, this means that should you observe that other members of the Ari Scara deviate from these then it is your responsibility to report these observation to an Ari Scara officer (one with wolverine rank or above) and he or she will take appropriate action.
Needless to say there are a lot of “grey” zones but if you are in doubt then ask.
If we get reports or on own account experience that you repeatedly and on intend break these rules then you will be excluded from the Ari Scara.
  1. Don’t misuse emotes, do the ones appropriate for the situation, e.g. no slapping Warchief Thrall! Also if you in character want to employ aggressive or provocative emotes towards members of the alliance, the flag your self. Dont /spit, /slap, /chicken or any of the other abusive or provocative -emotes with a member of the alliance targeted when you are unflagged.
  2. Stay in character in the guild channel and the general chat channels (/s and /y) Always!
  3. If the village or town you're in is under attack then try in what way you can to assist whether this be calling for help, extinguishing fire, healing or fighting to protect the horde citizens.
  4. Don’t GANK meaning don’t deliberately or unprovoked kill other players that are way inferior to you or at no threat at all, unless they and you are involved in a battle.
  5. If you must duel, then do it character.
  6. Don’t game-mechanically grief other players, this goes along the ganking and corpse camping. Don’t play in a way where your play deliberately make others play feel bad, that is no kill stealing, no ninja looting, no trade or duel spamming and so on and so fourth.
  7. Don’t ever use abbreviations and 1337 talk in any public channels.
  8. Don’t CORPSECAMP, meaning if you kill another player’s avatar then have the common decency to let him resurrect in peace before you attack him again, the exception to this being that an opposing force repeatedly attacking a horde settlement deserves no mercy. If they try to run then offer them swift death instead of letting them flee wounded into the woods and die in suffering.
  9. Don’t attack civilians! We are soldiers and defenders of the horde not murderers of mercenaries. Our goal is to promote peace not spur violence or start war.
  10. Treat other player with the courtesy and respect they deserve (depending on the situation of course).
  11. Don’t GRIEF or FLAME, meaning don’t start or participate in harassment chat dialogs. If other people GRIEF or FLAME you, then ignore them or turn off that chat channel for a while. If he or she doesn’t stop, report them to a game-master or a guild member so he can report him or her for you.
  12. Please refrain from doing the strip dance unless you do it in character, it is simply bad taste and inappropriate.
  13. Assume at all times that people will regard you as being in character as this is a role-playing server. No one forces you to think and act in character the hold time (there are things that are difficult in character EG: Raiding or PvP-ing) but not impossible, still it is imperative that you at no point in any public channel does anything that may disrupt immersion like for instance meta gaming (talking about DPS or mob spawns), or making real world references EG: “Yeah this raptor is not as fast as my motorcycle”
Further more certain game-elements are not supportive of the immersive role-playing and that means that sometimes a phenomenon such as meta-role-playing is present. Examples of such are Hearthstone Communications, Visible Name Tags, Battlegrounds, Ventrillo/Skype/Teamspeak -Communications, Power Emoting, The No Permanent Death Phenomenon and so on and so fourth. The Ari Scara view on such are described in the following and although not axioms as such you would do wisely to familiarize yourself with those views so you have an idea of how and what we expect you to do in given situations
  • Hearthstone communication: The hearthstone is a strange meta-role-playing device in the game that allows us to communicate real time with one another like a modern day cellular phone or shortwave radio, but it is magical in that we can do so whether we are fighting horrors in the molton core or fishing in the lake in Moonglade. It also permits and facilitates an open chat room like that of an internet web page. This is a fact that we have to accept as it is one of the core mechanics of the game despite its contradiction to immersive role-playing. But we do recommend that you limit your level of “physical” interaction role-playing, and power emoting in particular, to a bare minimum as it is immersive breaking to get *tied down to a chair and made sweet love* to when you are at the Orgrimmar Auction House and the one doing this to you is in the ruins of Ahn Quiraj. Emote interactive role-playing stimulates the mood of but when communicating in hearthstone be careful not to “interact physically” if your avatars are miles apart as it really doesn’t make any sense. If you like purely text based role-playing there are a lot of popular IRC websites for such but since we have such fine graphical representation in game-world environment and avatars it is a bit awkward and a shame not to use it.
  • Visible Name Tags: I personally play with name tags not visible for immersion purposes but this is not something that is required of you as a member, however it would be meta-gaming or meta-role-playing for you to “know” some ones name before he or she had told you this. Please take this into consideration when interacting and role-playing with the people of our server.
  • Battlegrounds and Honour: The honour system in itself makes little if any sense, honour is achieved by repeated and ongoing killing and rank is achieved when you have an extreme high murder rank. Don’t expect a General to know the first thing about leading an army and don’t be surprised if a grunt is a tactical genius. The honour system is meta-role-playing when it is best and it has special instances where is practiced called the battle grounds. In here people can clobber each other senseless for hours and day on end to hope to be awarded rank and gain reputation so they can’t get their grubs on the “phat lewt”. Also the concept of death is non existing really and that means getting killed or killing someone won’t prevent them from attacking you minutes after. This is why we don’t consider the battlegrounds a 100% in character part of the game, but more like a gladiatorial arena where fighters spar against each other in non lethal combat often with show boat objectives such as securing flags or playing “king of the hill”. I do immerse in combat and make prayers before fights, have various battle cries and salute the opponents I respect and cheer my comrades. This is not a requirement and we do not expect you as a member to behave in character or speak in character in battleground chat. What you do there is up to you. World PvP though is considered 100% in character and that means that you dont go attacking without just in character cause and NEVER attack civilians!
  • Third Party Communication Software(Ventrillo, Skype, Teamspeak etc): We live in an age where electronic communication is everyman’s property and easy accessible. Raiding is hard to do without such aids and you are free to use whatever makes the game for you we do implore though that you still act and respond to text interaction in the game when encountered as a mute character that seems to be in mind link with another mute character seems a bit odd and is to a certain degree immersive breaking. We do not as a guild offer any platforms for electronic communications but most raid forces has either a ventrillo or a team speak server and if you are part of such you can use that to facilitate your voice communication.
  • Power Emoting: The emote system allows our characters to perform a lot of emotions and non verbal character interactions. Some are predefined such as the /wave or /smile and others can be invented as you play along like the /em grinds his teeth. But with such comes an immersive preserving responsibility that is not to misuse such to force something unrealistically onto others. Even some of the pre-made emotes have power play elements in them such as the /hug or the /slap as it types that you are doing something to a targeted person that he or she might object physically to. Even worse is the self invented emotes such as /em strangles %target with his bare hands as that is something no one would let happen. Be very careful not to overstep the boundaries of realistic and mutually acceptable role-play when using the emote mechanics as it can easily become meta-gaming and meta-role-playing.
Remember that as a part of the Ari Scara you represents the guild wherever you go in the game and it only takes one bad impression to ruin ten good ones so don't be a jerk.

Meta Gaming and Lore Defying Roleplay

Meta gaming is acting and playing with knowledge of the world and game mechanics that your character cannot possible posses. It breaks the role playing mood and ruins the immersion of those around you and is frowned upon.

Example:
[Player1] : Damn the ogre doesn't seem to be home.
[Player2] : Thats ok he'll spawn in about ten minutes.
[Player1] : Spawn?
[player2] : Yeah some other party must have killed him just before we arrived, but he will re-appear in about ten minutes.

There are of course situations where you have to discuss game mechanics to figure out how to get on with the task at hand but please try to keep it in a non public channel like /p or /w so it doesn't bother or annoy other players.

Lore defying roleplay is knowing the world of warcraft lore and purposely ignoring it while playing. It ruins the atmosphere for others and makes your character look mentally challenged or a liar. Please refrain from purposely defying the lore of the world as it ruins the game.

Example:
[Player1] : Greetings brave Tauren who might you be?
[Player2] : Im Cairn Bloodhoof.
[Player1] : The great chieftain of the Taurens of Mulgore, really?
[Player2] : Yep thats me, now I order you to give me all your silver, I am chief you know!
[Player1] : I dont belive you.
[Player2] : Defying the chief, that's treason I could have you executed, now give me your money!
[Player1] : I better leave you seem a bit ...
Player1 slowly backs away avoiding eye contact

Of course you can unknowingly or without intend defy the lore and history of the gameworld but please try not to. If your in doubt about certain details ask a guild member in a non public channel before you start telling other players about your trip to Dranedor yesterday.

On a final note, many seem to believe that roleplaying is all about pointing out and commenting on those who do not roleplay. This is one of greatest misunderstandings and it is just as mood killing to hear ongoing discussion of whether the general channel should be IC or OOC or if age doesn't equal level and so on and so forth. If somebody starts this debate please dont parttake in it as this just decreases the overall roleplaying feel further.

If any or all of these guidelines seem absurd or annoying to you then perhaps you would enjoy playing more on a server that isn't RP oriented. In any case please don't ruin the RP mood/feel for those that prefer this style of gaming.
